Everyone has watched this scene from P.Ramlee's movie Bujang Lapok.
For those of us who know Jawi, most would have missed the import of what was spelt by Sudin when he and his two friends went to a school for illiterates.
He spelt Alif Mim Nun Wau (A/u, m, n, u), which is Umno - look at the Umno logo which we often see in Jawi. It also spells Alif Mim Nun Wau.
But Sudin said the words did not mean Umno, but Sarkis (Circus) - ie Umno is a circus.
Correct, correct, correct.

BRILLIANT, SIMPLY BRILLANT INVESTIGATIVE EXERCISE
We were referred to your blog by Rockys Bru Blog
We congratulate you for the translation and insight.
I doubt many did not notice it.
Thank you

P. Ramlee was an UMNO member for bahagian Jerai, my former Bahagian. He even ran for AJK UMNO for the Bahagian, or was it Cawangan, once, but lost. At the time, you had to be more that 'glamer' to be an UMNO leader. But P. Ramlee stayed a staunch UMNO supporter.
P. Ramlee probably didn't get attacked for his sindiran of UMNO members here because he was an UMNO member.
You see UMNO members, we wee UMNO members especially, only started getting attacked viciously for being critical of the UMNO-led government since the Lah-ist regime began in late 2003... with traitorous leaders being clear exceptions of course...
investigative exercise was done by me! :P
"...look at the Umno logo which we often see in Jawi. It also spells Alif Mim Nun Wau."
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I did not notice the spelling of UMNO in UMNO's logo. I can't find Alif Mim Nun Wau in it.
Look at the YouTube vid again for the red logo.
It is there in stylised Jawi (ie Jawi stylo-mylo). You can see the Mim (on the right) and the Wau (on the left) - they look like two tadpole heads with one eye facing each other.
And there is a dot at the centre - the legs of the two tadpoles are joined form the Nun (the original Nun of course looks like a periok with a dot in the centre).
I guess the keris forms the Alif.
ADDITIONAL INFO:
You would also notice another dot at the bottom of the logo. That is a Baa.
Note that in Malay, UMNO means Persatuan Kebangsaan Melayu Bersatu or PKMB.
So the logo actually spells both UMNO and PKMB. Clever logo designer, that!
You can see a stylised version of Paa Kaf Mim Baa (PKMB) also in logo if you look carefully.
