If you are watching the Indonesian presidential elections, like I am, then you can watch the quick-count results -- ie exit polls -- here at detik.com (Perhaps one can say this website is like Indonesia's malaysiakini).
Polling stations opened at 8am Jakarta time today/Wed (there are 33 provinces and three time zones in Indonesia. And yeah, 17,000 islands) and closed at 1pm Jak time (2pm Malaysia-Singapore time). They all took just 5 hours only to vote!!! So efficient.
So now everyone is listening and watching what the pollsters/survey companies are saying based on their 'quick-counts' - exit polls. Official results will only be out on July 17 but no one's waiting for that.
Since there are soooooo many of these survey companies (Malaysia has one main one, Merdeka Centre), and some of them are controlled by the parties of the three candidates, so it is better to watch what ALL the big survey companies are saying, and then average them out.
Right now, according to the quick-counts, incumbent SBY is leading big time! As expected of course.
He needs to get at least 50 per cent of the votes among the candidates or else there will be a second round of elections on Sept 8.
Indonesia held its legislative polls (for federal Parliament, provincial assemblies) in April. And SBY's party won big.
Why is Indon polls important to you?
a) Biggest Muslim nation in the world, population-wise. A stable country of 230 million shows Muslims are humans too :-)
b) If the biggest economy and biggest country in Southeast Asian is not stable, susah all its neighbours. I know one thing - if you got money, buy Indonesian stocks now. Because the country will boom in next 10years. Unless some stupid Malaysian or Singaporean bombers go and do shit things (several not caught yet and hiding there. 'Sialan lo'.)
c) If Indonesia can grow steadily and creat jobs, its neighbours will heave a sigh of relief because it will be like prosper-thy-neighbour thingy. There are some 2mil Indonesians working in Malaysia already, half illegally, and that make Malaysians nervous.
